Our Town:

Artists Assemble!
Free art workshops for young people in Haverfordwest this August.

Children and young people are invited to take part in a free, adventurous art workshop with Awen Studio in Haverfordwest this summer. Participants will be guided by experts through the town, taking in the sights with all our senses, cameras and sketches. After a short refreshments break, a hands-on studio session to gather and assemble our masterpieces - cut-and-paste style, collaging notes, drawings, rubbings and photographs into beautiful and unique compositions.

The workshop, funded by the Children's Festival with support from Arts Council of Wales Lottery funding, runs across two sessions: Wednesday 26 August for ages 6 to 11, and Thursday 27 August for ages 11 to 16. Each day begins with a short introduction to capturing images, either on a phone or digital camera, or through guided sketching for the youngest participants. Groups then take a guided walk around the town before returning to the studio to turn their photographs and sketches into finished artwork.

The project is being delivered by Awen Studio lead artist Owen Hart, working alongside local artists and photographers, designer Aimee-Jade Hayes and local artist and Heritage Trust Director Richard Blacklaw-Jones. The finished pieces will be developed into postcard designs, which will be displayed in the town and online. Each young person will receive copies of their own design to keep and share, and a set will be available to purchase from the Haverfordwest Town Museum.
